Real Estate Salesperson Requirements
Embark on a rewarding career journey,
Learn about the essential requirements to become a successful Real Estate Salesperson now!
Real estate transactions are legally binding contracts requiring parties to be of legal age, which is 18 in most places, to ensure they understand and are responsible for their actions.
Exceptions
Members of the California State Bar are exempt from the college-level course requirements. Evidence of admission to practice law in California, such as a photocopy of both sides of a California State Bar membership card, must be furnished.
If you completed Business Law, Economics, or Accounting at an approved 2 or 4-year college, then you have already completed the elective requirement. If you have completed one of said courses, please order a sealed, official transcript from your college or university and send it off to the DRE when you are ready to apply for the State Exam.
Once you complete the three required pre-license courses, apply for the Salesperson State Exam (we recommend the Combined Salesperson Examination and License Application found below). It can take up to six weeks for the DRE to process your application.
